Singapore GP Season 2009

Complementing the world’s only FORMULA 1 night race, the Singapore GP Season 2009 will present a slew of exhilarating race-themed events, intoxicating parties and irresistible retail and dining experiences. Be prepared for adrenalin-pumping and breath-taking events that will rev you up to the world-class FORMULA 1 action.

Temperatures are set to rise when the Singapore GP Season returns from 18 to 27 September 2009. Raging parties, mouth-watering Asian cuisine, sizzling fashion and red-hot shopping deals will descend onto the city, complementing the fast and furious action happening in the Marina Bay race circuit with the 2009 FORMULA 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix.

Asia On The Edge (18-27 September)

Sensuality. Elegance. Asian. For the second edition of Asia On The Edge this year, the multi-disciplinary festival will collaborate with artists from Singapore, Shanghai and other cities in Asia to focus on the art of design, craftsmanship, fashion and gastronomy together with an outdoor multi-media spectacle fusing visual and performing art forms that aim to showcase to the world the latest and trendiest in Asia. Launched by The Arts House and PICO in 2008, Asia On The Edge is an annual festival that serves to share the rich diversity of Asia’s cultures, voices and vision to an international audience.

Britto in Singapore (25 September – 25 October)

Brazilian neo-pop artist and sculptor Romero Britto will hold his first exhibition in Singapore for three weeks from 25 September to 25 October. Known for his fun, colourful and quirky pieces, Britto in Singapore will combine over 60 works both indoors and outdoors.

The gallery exhibition will showcase limited edition lithographs, paintings and mini sculptures by the artist, at the new Opera Gallery in ION Orchard. The display also includes five portraits of celebrated FORMULA ONE drivers – Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa, Kimi Raikkonen and Robert Kubica – which have been specially produced for this exhibition. Opera Gallery will also display works by international European Masters like Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso and Jean Dubuffet. Six monumental sculptures will add a colourful touch to Orchard Road at the newly created urban green rooms outside ION Orchard.

THE FIRST NIGHT RACE Outdoor Photo Exhibition(15 September – 9 October)

Bernard and Paul-Henri Cahier, father and son, are two of the most famous photographers in the history of sports car racing. In September 2008, Paul-Henri attended the first FORMULA ONE Grand Prix in Singapore, as an official photographer for the race. Covering the Singapore Grand Prix was a challenge, technically and artistically speaking, as it was the first night race in a city. A selection of the best pictures he took in Singapore in September 2008 will be showcased at the exhibition.

This exhibition, organized by Phish Communications, will be the first large format outdoor exhibition of Paul-Henri Cahier's works ever done and it will consist of 48 large format high quality prints (120x180cm) presented on 2.6-meter high standees. Paul-Henri Cahier will be in Singapore during this year’s race to launch his coffee-table book ‘The First Night Race’.

AN EVENING WITH IL DIVO (21 September)

AN EVENING WITH IL DIVO signals a striking departure from the group’s two previous tours. With a hi-tech stage and a digital light show, the sharp and seductive quartet is now able to showcase songs from their four studio albums against an even more spectacular backdrop. Amber Lounge Singapore (26-27 September)

Amber Lounge, the ultimate VIP nightlife experience, returns to the Temasek Reflection over the weekend of the 2009 FORMULA 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix.Part of the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix season, Amber Lounge was the party to be at during the race weekend, with a VIP clientele that included drivers, teams,celebrities and models.

The Singapore GP Season is all about fun, lifestyle and entertainment. Whilst it has been programmed to complement Singapore’s FORMULA ONE race, it also caters to a diverse audience. Following the feedback received from the inaugural Season in 2008, this year’s Season has been shortened to the 10 days surrounding the race weekend.
